Roger Ashby wins 350cc class in Lansdowne Cup Championship

When asked about this great win, Roger said, “Special thanks to Ron Lewis Engineering for the superb preparation of my 1956 AJS 7R. Ron has provided his engineering skills for my bike for the last 14 years, and during that time I have competed in 12 Manx Grand Prix, Vintage Motorcycle Club championship races, road races in Belgium and France, and more recently the Lansdowne Cup Series.

Not only has the bike been quick, but ultra reliable. "Thanks Ron for your engineering expertise and unfailing support.”

More success at Goodwood 2010 for Ron Lewis & Tim Jackson

The engine of Tim Jacksons 1946 Giera Saturno, which he shared with Alan Cathcart at Goodwood this year, was built up with replacement parts, most of which were made from scratch by Ron Lewis - camshaft, crankshaft and barrel were the main items but Ron also converted the head to accept coil springs as well as improving and modifying much else.

The two 25 minute races at this year's event were for bikes raced up to 1954. Reliability was therefore the critical factor since Goodwood is a fast circuit and the machines spend long periods flat out. The bike ran faultlessly to the end, finishing 6th overall and a recorded top speed of 107.2 mph. With having the 2nd oldest bike in the race, this was probably the best result that could have been hoped for!

The 1952 Manx Norton, ridden by the Folch/Viscassillas pair, was, rebuilt and prepared in its entirety by Ron. Despite both riders being relatively inexperienced, and not having the necessary sprockets to set up suitable gearing, it required very little attention during the weekend and finished a very creditable 10th.

Tim Jackson success in the 2010  "British Historic Grand Prix Championship

The winner of the 500cc Class was Michael Russell on Richard Adams' Manx Norton.

The engine for this bike started life as a standard bore and stroke Summerfield Manx, but much work by Ron over the winter of 2009/10 ensured the bike was equal to the fastest in this year's series.  The standard bore and stroke were retained but Ron fitted a one-piece crankshaft, with a plain bearing big end, and his own camshafts. He also paid particular attention to the head shape and ports which resulted in excellent gas flow figures being achieved.  Final tuning of intake and exhaust lengths, using Richard's own rolling road, produced an engine with good torque throughout the rev. range and superb top end performance.

The 350cc class was won by Tim Jackson, with his AJS 7R. Although Tim prepared the engine himself, it benefited from several Ron Lewis components, including the crankcases, crankshaft and cylinder barrel.
